Since then we have faced a global recession, global pandemic, and 10,000 bumps in the road, but with God’s blessings are still going. As with any endeavor of this nature, the coaches and wonderful families who have been part of the Beach Cities Volleyball have made this all occur.”

Hi Awesome Beach Cities Families!
- Greetings from Salt Lake City, Utah. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend with their families. I am spending time with my son Tim & his wife Sara and their 15 year son & three daughters, 13 & 8 year old twins. The highlights of the weekend were: 1) The Jazz game on Saturday. The Jazz won on Saturday but their opponents wore them out, so when they played the Lakers on Sunday, it was Lakers, no contest, 2) Sunday Easter basket opening & buffet at the Grand America!, 3) …………and Sunday night, a two hour tribute to the Beach Boys! The snow on the mountains in SL City was a majestic sight all weekend. Again, I hope all the Beach Cities Volleyball families had a similarly wonderful weekend with their families.

Hi Awesome Beach Cities Families!
- I’m just getting back from a place named “Clava Sports Center”, located about an hour & ½ from our home, having coached our 12 Smack team. We went 2-1, beating Surfside & Coast’s 12-1 teams, so it was a very long but good day! It is my understanding that our 13 Platinum won first in their pool on Saturday with a 2-1 record also. Congratulations to all the Girls 11s, 12’s 13’s & 14s who represented Beach Cities Volleyball this weekend. As the season goes on, I hope everyone is able to watch our players compete in their SCVA tournaments.
- Spring League: Our Spring League, held at LA Galaxy had a terrific first day, wherein our Boys 12 Black, 13 Black, Girls 12 Platinum, 11 Smack, & Culver 12s, 12 Smack, 14 Onyx, 13 Platinum & 14 Diamond played in hearty competition. One great thing about our Spring League is that it will be played at LA Galaxy, rather than over an hour from our homes. All Beach Cities Volleyball teams will have the opportunity to play in 1-3 Spring League tournaments this season. Information on the Spring League tournament schedule into the future will be available to your coaches early this week.
- Other activities: Our Future Stars have grown to include 6-8 year old ‘Mini Stars” on Friday from 4 to 5:30; the furious efforts of these future volleyball players is the very definition of “Cuteness”! Also our plyometrics are off to a great start, Tuesdays at 7:30 for high school teams, Wednesday at 4 PM for younger teams.
- Court Sharing: You may have noticed that a new team is practicing on Court 4 at LA Galaxy. We are sharing court space from 2-4PM so that the South Bay Lutheran Boys team has a place to practice. On two Tuesdays & two Thursdays they will also be having matches that run until 4:30.
- Spring Break Clinics: As I mentioned last week, starting March 27th & 28th (Monday & Tuesday) we will be initiating our first ever Spring Break Clinics for three individual two-day weeks. The specific dates are March 27-28, April 3-4 & April 10-11, from 9 to 11 AM or noon to 2 PM. The reason for the different sessions over the three weeks is that it seems that every school district has a different Spring Break week. Topping this off will be a “Spring Break Finale” tournament to be held on Friday April 14th. All this is held at LA Galaxy. You can register for the Clinics and Tournament at ‘Beachcitiesvbvc.com’. For questions please call our office at 310-546-9150.

The program for our older teams will remain on the Tuesday at 7:30 schedule. Both programs last one hour and are free to Beach Cities Volleyball players participating. This is a new program for Beach Cities Volleyball, so the program is starting on a limited basis, just a few teams at each session.
- Palos Verdes Future Stars: Runs on Tuesday at St. John Fisher this week, and a 2nd group was added last week on Thursday at St. John Fisher. If you have a younger player who was unable to get into the Tuesday PV program because all the spots were taken, spots are still available on the Thursday sessions. - Our office has sent out multiple requests for input regarding uniform parts already ordered but still missing. If you are missing uniform parts that you ordered, please notify your coach & cc sadiq @beachcitiesvbc.com. Please be careful, though, as in many cases the families did not order uniforms, but then reported the merchandise as missing. This really confused the process. Also, if you received uniform parts to use until your merchandise came in, they are now duplicative; please return them to your coach or the office so we can keep our records and uniform inventory straight.
I look forward to talking to you next week! Respectfully, Chip Schulte

Hi Awesome Beach Cities Families!
- February is the month of SCVA tournaments and the always competitive Las Vegas Classic, and the Volleyball Fiesta tournament, held in Phoenix.
- Las Vegas Classic: The annual Las Vegas Classic included the strongest high school teams from outside Southern California come to see how they match up against our region. Beach Cities sent six teams to the Las Vegas Classic, all of whom performed admirably. Christian Cammayo’s 18 Smack team won their last four matches to win their final day division. Kevin Williams’ 16 Smack team won 51st in the largest tournament division in the whole tournament, made up of 156 teams (!) across the nation. Tony Mayrie’s 17th Smack won 9th in their age division of 112 teams, including winning their final day championship, and his 15 Smack won 19th of 113 teams in the 15s Division. Kevin Williams 17 Platinum and Brenda Gonzalez’s 15 Platinum teams also did very well, both winning 3 matches in a row during the tournament, taking on the best the country has.
- Volleyball Fiesta: The Volleyball Fiesta is open to teams aged 11-14 as well as high school teams. Beach Cities sent four 14 & Under teams to the Volleyball Fiesta, a huge tournament that filled up at 546 teams this season. Sophia Odle’s 14 Smack went 6-1 to finish 5th out of 96 teams in the 14’s division, and Halle Anderson’s 14 Diamond went 4-4 in this very tough tournament. Kaitlin Requejo’s 13 Smack went 6-3, good for 17th in the tournament and a final day bracket championship, my 12 Smack made me proud, finishing 6-2 to take 11th in the 64 team division. The Volleyball Fiesta is available to all Beach Cities teams over President’s Day weekend each year, and always provides a great mix of competition but also uniquely a special positive ‘vibe’. This positive vibe seems to be always present in the Fiesta, the Spring Fling in Tulare and the Volleyball Festival Nationals held at the end of the year. Please consider this when your coach brings up the opportunity to play in these three tournaments next year or later this season. There are still opportunities this season for both the Spring Fling the weekend of March 25-26 & the Volleyball Fiesta Nationals in June.
- Next weekend: Our Girls 13s & 14s teams will be competing on Saturday, and our Girls 15s & 17s on Sunday, in SCVA tournaments.
- Activities starting up in February: Mini Stars program for players 6-8 starts on Friday, March 3rd at LA Galaxy at 4 PM. Palos Verdes Future Stars on Tuesday February 27th at St. John Fisher gym at 6 PM. Jr & Advanced Future Stars will start Session 4 of the season on Monday February 26th, and run Monday through Thursday at 4 PM, and two sessions on Saturday morning. Plyometric Training is starting in February with age-appropriate plyometric training, on Mondays at 4 PM for younger teams, and Tuesdays at 7:30 for older teams. This is a new program for Beach Cities Volleyball, so the program is starting on a very limited basis, with just a few teams at each session.
I look forward to talking to you next week! Respectfully, Chip Schulte
Hi Awesome Beach Cities Families!
- February is always an eventful month, including Black History month, baseball’s Spring Training, NBA Basketball’s trading deadline, High School Boys Volleyball competition, the Pro Bowl, and the Superbowl. Most college basketball teams will seal their fate as to whether they get into March Madness or not in February, and this month Lebron James will break the all-time scoring record, currently held by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and previously Wilt Chamberlain (incidentally all three are/were our Lakers (!). February brings President’s Day weekend, the start of “snowbirds” planning their mid-April trek back to their homes in colder areas in the Midwest, and frenzied activity by Hollywood pushing for their movies to receive Academy Awards.February is also a noteworthy volleyball month, bringing SCVA competition all month, and annually bringing the Vegas Classic and the Volleyball Fiesta in Phoenix. Both tournaments are held over the President’s Day weekend. The annual Las Vegas Classic includes the strongest high school teams from outside Southern California come to see how they match up against our region. Beach Cities is sending six teams to the Las Vegas Classic. The Volleyball Fiesta is open to teams aged 11-14 as well as high school teams. Held in Phoenix, Beach Cities is sending four teams to the Volleyball Fiesta’s topflight competition. Good luck to all the fine young ladies competing for Beach Cities Volleyball at these very competitive tournaments.

- SCVA tournaments: Congratulations to Martha Bailiff’s 16/15 Silver team, who marched through their competition to go undefeated this past weekend in their SCVA! Next Saturday our 11’s & 12s teams will be competing in SCVA tournaments.
I look forward to talking to you next week! Respectfully, Chip Schulte
Hi Awesome Beach Cities Families!

- College Showcase: This past Thursday Beach Cities Volleyball held their first College Showcase for college coaches to view potential college players. The volleyball play was great!
- Lastly, a sad note and gray day for the Beach Cities Volleyball Family. Our own Cait Naylor, a very brave and beautiful 14-year-old, and part of our Beach Cities Volleyball family, has passed away from cancer. Caitlin comes from a wonderful family. Currently, the Naylor family is in the process of making funeral arrangements and additional information about services will be shared at a later date. The family asked that any donations in Cait’s honor be directed to Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute. I personally will never forget our wonderful Cait! I’m sorry to end on that somber note.
- February is another month of volleyball, including the fabled Vegas Classic (in Las Vegas) and the Volleyball Fiesta (in Phoenix).
I look forward to talking to you next week! Respectfully, Chip Schulte

- After this tournament, our 6 High School Boys team’s season will be in “hibernation” until mid April (practicing through Jan 27th), as the players will be competing for their High Schools. Our Boys 12s, 13s & 14s will continue their season, with their next tournament on February 11th. Meanwhile the Girls Teams will continue their season with all our High School teams playing on Saturday February 4th, and our 13s & 14s competing on Sunday February 11th.
