Why Beach Cities Volleyball
Since 2000, Beach Cities Volleyball has been passionate about teaching volleyball. We play the sport. We support the sport in every way we can. Our program boasts some of the most talented young women and men in the South Bay and with hard work, commitment, and perseverance, they have made a name for Beach Cities Volleyball.
Our teamwork is the secret that makes individual volleyball players achieve uncommon results. The successes of Beach Cities Volleyball is the cumulative result of the passion for the game that each athlete has and their desire to get better.
Beach Cities Volleyball aspires to embody the soul of volleyball: a place where training, competition and lifestyle are equal and integrated organically when you are taking it to spiketown!

MEET CHIP SCHULTE Founder & President of Beach Cities Volleyball since 2000

Chip graduated from Palisades High School, received his Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Economics in 1969 from California University, an MBA from Rutgers University in 1971, a CPA License in December 1972, and an MPI from USC in 1978. He served as President/CEO or as CFO of six business entities from 1974 to 2000, when he started Beach Cities Volleyball. He is married to Sarah Purcell Schulte, and has two sons and a daughter, 8 grandchildren, and one stepson.
In Chip’s words: “Tony Mayrie, Don Shaw and I started things at tryouts in October 1999. We had four players at the first tryouts but worked hard and were able to provide programming for four teams the first year, and then 10 teams the second year. Since then we have faced a global recession, global pandemic, and 10,000 bumps in the road, but with God’s blessings are still going. As with any endeavor of this nature, the coaches and wonderful families who have been part of the Beach Cities Volleyball have made this all occur.”
“The Mission Statement of Beach Cities Volleyball is to ‘Teach life skills and volleyball skills from 8 to 18’. The priorities are to have fun, teach volleyball skills, and act as positive role model. Our beginning players become Intermediate players, our Intermediate players become Advanced players, and our Advanced players have strong opportunities for a future that includes college volleyball careers.”
Chip has coached 12 Smack for 22 seasons; over 160 players on is past teams have gone on to high school volleyball careers, and his former players have had successful careers at colleges across the nation.
A Place For Everyone to Learn Volleyball
Here at Beach Cities Volleyball, we don’t have a “win at all cost” philosophy, instead our staff and coaches work hard to create an atmosphere where each athlete can become “the best that they can be.” Beach Cities Volleyball builds beginning, intermediate and advanced teams at every age level. Beach Cities Volleyball does not solely focus on its top or strongest teams, but works to focus on every player and highlight every team in the club.
Experienced Coaches
Beach Cities Volleyball has some of the best coaches in the South Bay. Our head coaches have years of experience and impressive resumes from former professional players and college players, to current college coaches, high school coaches including some of which are also CIF Champion Coaches and CIF Coach of the Year Award Winners! Our coaches enjoy being in the gym sharing their enthusiasm and love for the game of volleyball with our athletes. Coaching isn’t a job, it’s a passion!
Character Counts
Beach Cities Volleyball cares about the whole player! This includes training and programming that helps to provide ways for the athlete to grow mentally, physically, and emotionally in the very dynamic sport of volleyball. Growth is an important part of any sport and here at Beach Cities Volleyball, we help to develop an athlete’s character both on and off the court. We are confident that our team will play with pride, poise, and dignity every game in our pursuit of each victory.
Training to Play in College
Beach Cities Volleyball is diligent in its efforts to train players on it’s Smack teams to be able to compete at the collegiate level. We provide help with the recruiting process such as video recording, providing team/individual analysis through statistics in practice and games, contacting college coaches, and helping to get players signed up for showcases and travel opportunities.
