Letter from the Prez

December 4, 2025

The season is upon us! Our Boys Teams have been practicing hard & playing in tournaments for a few months; Sadiq Kagzi’s Boys 16 Black team is going to play in the Northern California Jr Olympic Qualifiers for the first Beach Cities team traveling this season.

Our ten 14 & Under Girls teams have been practicing & played in their first tournaments, and are working hard, improving by the day. Congratulations to Brenda Gonzalez & her awesome 13 Smack team, who swept through six matches in their first two-day tournament.

Based on the required SCSN calendar, our nine High School Girls teams were able to start practicing just after Thanksgiving & will start tournament play this weekend. The dates team practices can start is dictated by the SCSN (Southern California South Nevada Volleyball Association) calendar, who is respecting the dates of the High School Girls season.

This year we have initiated a New Wave team for Girls 10 & Under, coached by Noely Sanchez; the team is already practicing. Many of the young ladies on the New Wave were previously part of our ‘Future Stars’ program, which is going strong under the leadership of Phil Spazek.

The Future Stars play in 6-week seasons, playing generally twice a week, having fun & building their skills. Seasons #1 & #2 have already been completed, and the next 6-week season will start next Monday.  If anyone is interested at any age level, and in particular those 9, 10 ten or 11 years of age, the Future Stars, New Wave or 11 Smack, coached by Valorous Veronica Sanchez, teams are for you!

Congratulations to Christian Cammayo & his fabulous Santa Monica College Volleyball Team, who won the Western State Conference & earned a spot in the playoffs the top 4 JC teams in all of California at the 32CA State Championships. Only two from SoCal & two teams from Northern California are still playing, Christian’s team is one of the four!  Congratulations to Sarah Borquez, who assisted in coaching her Santa Fe High School to the Southern Section Quarter Finals. Hats off to Kevin Williams (Peninsula High) & Johnathan Woods (Harbor Teacher’s Prep School) who coached their teams into the Southern Section playoffs.
